An old woman who moves through Barovia village at night, pushing a rickety wooden cart through the fog and knocking on doors to sell soft brown pastries. She speaks of her sisters having moved on, leaving her alone at an old mill outside the village.

Ignacious Teegan accepted one of her pastries outside the The Blood of the Vine tavern. The effects were immediate and disorienting, colours deepening, sounds arriving late and layered, the world gone soft and saturated at the edges.

Later that same night she was found outside the tavern cradling a swaddled Barovian infant, the child’s parents pleading for it back. She was unbothered, insisting the child had been given to her in a fair trade freely offered. When Edric Storm offered her any favour in exchange for the child, she accepted without hesitation, looking far too pleased about it. She handed the child over and disappeared back into the fog.

The party found her at her windmill on the road toward Vallaki, in a flour-covered apron, surrounded by a field of scarecrows. Before inviting them in for tea, she offered Edric a choice: she would tell him where Arabelle was, or call in his favour. He chose the information. Inside were two women she had earlier spoken of as her sisters, now introduced as her daughters, Bella Sunbane and Ophalia Wormwiggle. When Virro said he preferred wine to tea, she rapped the teapot and poured him wine from it.

She told them Arabelle is in Vallaki, separated from Krogarov and taken by a man named Izek Strazni, and that her father was last seen heading to the lake. In return, she asked for “the tongue of a very rude dusk elf”: the head of Rahadin, the castle chamberlain. She didn’t say what her grievance with him was. She sent the party off with Tatters, a scarecrow horse, so none of them would be unhorsed.
