A scrawny boy in ill-fitting plate armour, picked up along with the rest of the party by Garlan Shepard on the road north of Neverwinter. The party came to know him as Red, for his wispy ginger hair and boyish hints of a moustache.

When the fog swallowed the road and the party climbed down to investigate, Red refused to leave the wagon. He managed, with some effort, to stay inside while everything fell apart around him. When Stanford broke free and the wagon lost its axle, the party hoisted Red onto Keneticut and brought him in tow down the road.

At the fork, Red split from the group and headed toward The Last Gasp, while the others followed the Old Svalich Road.

The party found him again on a road winding between two halves of an old graveyard, kneeling beside the mauled corpse of Stanford. His breastplate had been torn clean away and his right arm was caked in dried blood. Something had been following him, he said: “The things that come out of the ground. Everywhere I go, they keep following me. They keep getting up.” He had lost his shield to wolves, and carried a lilac book given to him by a lady in white at The Last Gasp.

When zombies clawed their way out of the graves, Red bolted for the mausoleum, slipped climbing it, and broke his ankle. In the fight, an arrow from Virro meant for a zombie beside him struck Red in the heart instead, and he fell still. Moments later he took a sharp breath and sat bolt upright, pale, the arrow clean through his heart. “You got me,” he said. Virro pulled it out, and Red stood on his broken ankle without seeming to notice.

After borrowing a quill from Edric, he drew a horse on a page of the lilac book and handed it to Edric. Then he set off into the mists to find the woman who gave him the book, so that he could be fixed. The party couldn’t persuade him to stay, and only angered him when they forgot his name.

“IT’S FREDRICK!!”
